To all students, faculty, staff,
Ohio is conducting a statewide tornado drill on Wednesday, March 20, at 9:50 a.m. BW will be participating in this test. This is only a test of the mass notification systems, and no shelter-in-place activities are required.
Berea utilizes a mass notification system called Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs) administered by FEMA and Cuyahoga County authorities through text and phone messaging. Learn more about WEAs here: https://cityofberea.org/151/Wireless-Emergency-Alerts
Peak tornado season in Ohio is generally April through July, although they can occur at other times and throughout the year.
Experts agree that the best options are to go to an underground shelter, basement or safe room. If no underground shelter or safe room is available, the safest alternative is a small, windowless interior room or hallway on the lowest level of a sturdy building, such as an interior bathroom. Whether practicing in a tornado drill or sheltering during a warning, the Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness encourages Ohioans to DUCK!
D - Go DOWN to the lowest level
U - Get UNDER something
C - COVER your head
K - KEEP in shelter until the storm has passed
