ACM-W General Newsletter!
Greetings, ACM-W!
Week 12 already! This semester sure has gone by fast. Thank you for everyone who came to our Halloween Party, It was such a blast! With that said, we have a lot of new announcements for you today!
First off, with finals coming up soon, we'd like to provide you all with an opportunity to study together with your fellow ACM-W members! We will be hosting our signature Java Hangout as a group study session in the Knowlton Upstairs Student Lounge on Tuesday, December 2nd, from 3-6pm! Come and join us to enjoy a study space with other people to help you stay motivated and fuel yourself with a variety of free snacks, including coffee and donuts!! We hope to see you there!
Next, we'd like to bring some more attention to the 2025 Computing, Engineering, Mathematics, and Science Showcase (CEMS) taking place in the Knowlton Center on Thursday, December 4th, from 7-9pm! If you can, this would be a great opportunity to see what some of your fellow computing students have been up to and maybe even get inspiration for a project of your own! Our very own Treasurer, Lauren, is also presenting there! Her poster covers the VIBES Lab and the research they've been doing on the difference in eye tracking patterns between Virtual Reality and flat panel monitors, so come by and check it out if you have time!
Finally, if you're a Math or Computing major, you were already notified about this in an email a few days ago, but as a reminder, ACM-W and our colleagues at ACM are both holding our 2026 Executive Board Elections next week!! The form for nominations just went out this past Monday, and you can find it here. It includes the nomination slots for both ACM-W and ACM, but you are not required to fill every slot to submit the form, so feel free to nominate whoever you think would be fit for any positions you'd like. You can even nominate yourself! Nominations close this coming Monday, November 17th. Afterwards, the voting ballot will be released and will close on Monday, November 24th. The form only has spaces for President, Vice President, and Treasurer, but if you or someone you know would like to fill dedicated Secretary and Social Media Manager roles for either ACM-W or ACM, please let either myself, Ann-Marie, or John Bacho, ACM President, know by emailing us at amtambo24@bw.edu and jbacho22@bw.edu respectively. Since elections occur before the end of the semester, our current executive boards will be happy to show any new elects the ropes and get you all up to speed, so don't worry at all about being out of your depth. Please don't hesitate to contact me or John if you have any questions!
I know this was a lengthy newsletter, but thank you for taking the time to read through it!
Thanks for a great semester so far!
