Hello Cinephiles!
I just want to start by saying thank you for meeting with us at the Involvement Fair back in early September. I hope everyone's semester is going well, and to let everyone know that we are slowly getting into production for the International Film Series (IFS) for next semester, February 2025!
For the new people allow me to explain a little bit about the IFS. For the past twenty years, the French Department has been putting on the Film Festival every February, which consists of twelve movies spanned over two weekends back-to-back. The festival is typically connected to a Spring French Elective course, but do not worry! You do not need to know any French or be in a French course to be a part of the film series. We welcome everyone to join! The IFS is connected to a grant known as the Albertine Cinémathèque grant which provides extensive resources to its members, including a list of films handpicked by its committee for on-campus events, a semi-annual virtual film series for in-class discussions, and many opportunities to bring filmmakers into the conversation with students. the Albertine Cinémathèque continues to support French film festivals on campus with its annual Festival Grant. Grantees will be selected by a committee of university faculty and will receive a grant of $2,400. Lucky for us, we received the grant!!
Now we just need your help! If you are interested, I have a survey attached here to let me know if you are interested in being a part of the organizational factor or simply want to watch films. Being a part of the committee means getting to hand-pick the films, curate a film lineup, eat some great food, and have a wicked resume for when we're finished. Please fill out the survey I have linked below; I hope to see some of you soon!
