Data Governance

So, what IS Data Governance?

Defined by The Data Governance Institute, it is "a system of decision rights and accountabilities for information-related processes, executed according to agreed-upon models which describe who can take what actions with what information, and when, under what circumstances, using what methods."

Our Vision: To act as a supportive, accessible, and self-sustaining group that establishes and facilitates improved communication and campus protocols to ensure that data and systems are consistent, accurate, and trusted for reporting results and making critical decisions through continual assessment.

Our Purpose:

  • Ensure responsibility, accountability, and sustainability of data policies and procedures centered around people, processes and technology
  • Establish and ensure the preservation, availability, security, confidentiality, and usability of the University's data
  • Create commonality in the language and terms used for data collection, reporting, and analytics that is adopted and shared by the entire University
  • Regulate the utilization of a single source of data across the enterprise and eliminate conflicting secondary sources and 'shadow databases'
  • Facilitate data reporting and analysis that is actionable and relevant to the University
