Mission
Academic Advising at Baldwin Wallace University is a developmental process of faculty members working with students to strategize, develop, and implement a plan related to students' educational, career, and personal goals. Through this interactive relationship, students learn how to utilize resources and tools to make effective, self-directed decisions. While this process is a collaborative effort, the ultimate responsibility for making decisions rests with the individual student.

Academic Advising is available to all students who are admitted to Baldwin Wallace University. Advising for full-time undergraduate day students is provided by faculty and Learning Center specialists and coordinated by the Office of Academic Advising. Students who have declared a major will be advised by faculty in that department or school. Students whose majors are undecided are advised by a faculty member in a department of interest, a faculty member who works with undecided students, or by the Office of Academic Advising.

Students should contact the Office of Academic Advising to talk to an advising professional about planning their courses, to discuss academic issues, or exploring different major or minors.

The Academic Affairs Office oversees the academic mission of the University. The Office is guided by Baldwin Wallace University's Mission Statement and Strategic Plan. Together these documents establish a direction for BW's Academic Programs and educational priorities enabling BW to serve its community.

The Analysis of Movement & Performance Advancement Laboratory is in its second year at Baldwin Wallace University. Our objective is to advance research in the areas of injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance improvement. We implement motion capture technology to assess individual movement patterns. This is a student-focused laboratory, offering opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to understand how biomechanical equipment can be utilized in athletic and rehabilitation settings while further developing their research skills.

Mission
Burrell Memorial Observatory (1940) was a gift of Mrs. Katherine Ward Burrell in honor of her husband, a widely known designer and engineer who built some of the world's largest telescopes. It contains a 13 3/8-inch Warner and Swasey refracting telescope, display room, astronomy classrooms. The telescope is used in astronomy instruction by the Department of Physics. The interior of the building has been refurbished to suit current uses. Burrell is one of Ohio's most beautiful surviving vintage observatories.

Open houses are scheduled at various times throughout the year. Call (440) 826-2312 to be put on the email list to receive notification of the programs. Those interested may also call the Observatory line at (440) 826-2223 for the latest program information.

The Baldwin Wallace University Bursar's Office is staffed by the Cashiers, Billing Specialist, Student Account Analyst, Federal Perkins Loan Advisor and Veteran School Certifying Official. Daily activities involve collection of tuition and fees, campus wide billing, payment plan administration, student debt counseling, Federal Perkins Loans, and certifying our veteran students who receive VA and military benefits, as well as institutional loan administration.

We offer a convenient, interest-free, 5-month payment plan each semester in Fall & Spring and a 3-month plan for the summer term to help families budget the cost of their student's education.

The Campus Safety Committee (CSC) was created to foster a safe environment for faculty, staff, student employees, and volunteers in the work setting through review, assessment, continuous quality improvement and enhanced communication and promotion of occupational health and safety across campus. The Committee will assess the effectiveness of occupational safety and health programs by utilizing data gathering tools and may conduct reviews as it develops and implements quality improvement initiatives to systematically improve and enhance safety and health University-wide.

Why should I write a thank you letter for my BW scholarship?
Baldwin Wallace University donors have created over 400 scholarships to support BW students like you in financing your education. Because donors are helping you attend BW, we encourage you to express your gratitude in letter of thanks, telling them a bit about yourself including your year in school, your major, your involvement in campus clubs, organizations or athletics, and your career aspirations.

When a donor receives your thank you letter, it creates a positive impression of you and of the University. It also encourages donors to continue supporting student scholarships at BW.

How do I submit a thank you letter to my scholarship donor?
Get started:
Under the Resources tab, you will find some sample letters to guide you in the writing process. While these letters can help you with style, formatting, and length, try to write about your own experiences in your own words. We encourage you to add a photo of yourself as well.
Instructions for writing and submitting your thank you letter:
- Under the Scholarships tab, review the list of scholarships organized alphabetically by the donor’s last name and find the scholarship you have been awarded.
- Identify the person who will receive your thank you letter (listed in each scholarship entry).
- Under the Resources tab, review sample thank you letters and read about tips for writing a strong thank you letter.
- When your letter is drafted, go to the Submit menu and upload a letter, or type one into the window provided. Please be sure to include your name and contact information and the correct name of your scholarship. Please upload a photo of yourself to include. BW’s Center for Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement will send the letter to your donor.
If you are comfortable with doing so, please also check the box giving permission to use your thank you letter text and/or photo in other marketing materials.
Who selected me for this scholarship?
BW scholarship awarding decisions are made by the Office of Financial Aid, often with guidance from BW faculty and staff. Students are selected based on their financial need and factors specified by the donor. Faculty and staff also recommend students based on merit (academic or artistic), leadership and service. If you have questions about your financial aid package, please contact Will McGinley, Director of Financial Aid, at wmcginle@bw.edu.
