Analysis of Movement & Performance Advancement Laboratory

About Us

The Analysis of Movement & Performance Advancement Laboratory is in its second year at Baldwin Wallace University. Our objective is to advance research in the areas of injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance improvement. We implement motion capture technology to assess individual movement patterns.

This is a student-focused laboratory, offering opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to understand how biomechanical equipment can be utilized in athletic and rehabilitation settings while further developing their research skills.

Current Study

Currently, the lab is examining biomarkers in both the brain and body that may be associated with injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the knee. The study involves an examination of lower body movement while participants jump and simultaneously focus on an external stimulus. This is intended to recreate an environment where an athlete must react to defenders while still performing at an elite level. In addition, AHSW students are collaborating with other student researchers across campus as they examine the brain activity of these athletes. Student work has been published in and presented at local, national, and international conferences. Study findings have been presented recently at the following conferences:

BW Ovation 2023 - Jacob Petrus ’22, Justin Blankenburg ’23, and Alek Johnson ‘25

International Society of Biomechanics in Sport 2023 Annual Conference

Midwest American Society of Biomechanics 2023 Conference – Jacob Petrus ’22, Justin Blankenburg ’23, Alek Johnson ’25, Cassidy Haines ’23, Lameice El-Madhoun ’24, Aaron Harris ’24, Mason Kiesel ‘24
