How do I get approval for my study?
To request to have your study approved (i.e., opened), click on the "my studies" link and click "send a request." After you've done this, Sona Systems will email the Student Research Coordinator (SRC) requesting approval. The SRC will approve studies during his office hours only. Therefore, you can expect your study to be approved during the next session of the SRC's office hours.
In order for the SRC to approve your study, you MUST send proof of your IRB approval to src@bw.edu first. The easiest way to do this is to forward the "Congratulations!" email sent by Kuali upon IRB approval to the SRC email. The SRC cannot access Kuali, so if you send any documents pertaining to proof of IRB approval, they must be in pdf or doc form. If you have any questions about this, please contact the SRC.
How do I give credit to my participants?
If you are conducting an in-person study, it is crucial that you stay up to date on giving participants credit on Sona Systems. To give a participant credit: Click on the "Studies" link at the top of the page and then choose the "Uncredited Timeslots" option. This will give you a list of all of the participations that are still awaiting credit. To grant credit, click on the "Grant Credit" link. For more information, see the packet distributed during your training session.
How do I reserve rooms for my study?
If your experiment requires that you reserve a room in Malicky or another building, please do the following. All requests must be submitted electronically to the appropriate email address for the building, as outlined below. In the subject line of the e-mail please write: Room Reservation Request. In your e-mail please include the following information: your name, the name of your experiment, the date needed for a room request, the times requested for this date. *Note: When scheduling times, please make sure to schedule adequate time for set-up/clean-up. Please understand that reserving rooms for an experiment is often a time-consuming process and it may take several requests before you are able to schedule a room. For the best outcome, please e-mail the appropriate person at least a week prior to the date for which you're requesting a room.
If your study requires that you reserve a room in Malicky, please do the following. (Most in-person studies should be conducted in Malicky.)
If there is a specific reason you need to conduct your study in a different campus building, navigate to “Campus Schedulers” under “Links” in the EMS website provided above. A directory of contacts for each building will be listed. Reach out to the appropriate person, and include the same information listed above. Additionally, you should specify that your request is for your psychology thesis project.
What does "Awaiting Action" mean?
"Awaiting Action" means that the researcher (you!) has to take action, meaning you need to grant or penalize credit for the student participants once the timeslot has taken place.
