Information about 2026 Choral Auditions

All BW students, regardless of major or prior experience, are welcome to sing in curricular choral ensembles. Any student interested in BW Singers, Treble Choir, or Motet Choir will need to complete a brief (5 minute) choral hearing to ensure they are placed appropriately. ALL Vocal Music Majors (Music Education, Vocal Performance, Music Theater) must audition (unless the ensemble requirement is complete).

Prepared Piece: Memorize 1-2 minutes of a prepared selection. This must be an art song, aria, or folk song/hymn. Please no “belt” songs for this audition.

If your chosen selection includes accompaniment, you must provide music for the pianist. If you do not have prepared piece, you will be asked to sing a well-known traditional tune (My Country ‘Tis of Thee; Happy Birthday; etc.)

Please note: Vocal Music Majors (Music Education, Vocal Performance, Music Theater) must come with a prepared piece with music for the pianist.

Sight Reading: You will be given several short examples of sight singing. If you are unable to read music THAT IS FINE, we will examine your musical aptitude in other ways. 

Vocalizing: You will be asked to sing one or more vocal exercises that will be provided.

Motet Choir – Director: Dr. Dirk Garner

BW Singers – Director: Dr. Jessica Gallagher-Steuver

Treble Choir – Director: Dr. Dirk Garner
