All first-year students take FYE 100 during their first semester. This 1 credit course focuses on: engaging with and connecting to peers; gain skills for academic success; explore a sense of belonging and commitment to the community.
Each FYE section is led by a faculty instructor and a Peer Leader.

Opportunities for small group engagement through-out Weekend of Welcome open to all, facilitated through the Jacket-Link Leadership Program.

Peer Leaders are upperclass students that have been selected and trained to guide and assist new students throughout their first year.
Peer Leader selection launches late fall for the following academic year.

First-Year students have the unique opportunity to contribute to a participatory research project "PhotoVoice" in which they take images that represent their experience of CONNECTION during their first year at BW.
Images, along with a brief text describing how the image shows their experience of connection, will be considered for display at OVATION 2026.
