  • Where is the Alternative Testing Room? What do I need to bring? What time should I arrive?

Where is the Alternative Testing room?

The Alternative Testing room is on the top floor of Ritter Library (57 E. Bagley Road). Check in at the CASA reception desk when you arrive.

What do I need to bring?

This can vary depending on the test. Speak with your instructor about what materials are necessary. Typically, you'll need a few pencils, a calculator, a computer charger, and your water bottle. The Alternative Testing Room does not provide supplies for students.

    What time should I arrive?

Please arrive ten minutes before your scheduled start time. You need to have plenty of time to check-in, use the restroom, put your personal belongings in a locker, and get instructions from your proctor before your test begins. If you arrive late, you will forfeit some of your allotted testing time.

  • What are the rules? Am I allowed to use the bathroom during my test? Can I bring gum?

Take time to review the Alternative Testing policies. All students must adhere to these policies when using the Alternative Testing room. If you have any questions, please email alternativetesting@bw.edu.

  • I'm logged in to AIM but cannot schedule my exam.

There may be a few reasons why you cannot schedule your exam:

    1. You have not requested your LOA be sent to your instructors: To request your LOA be sent to your instructors, follow instructions on submitting LOA requests provided by the Office of Accessible Education (OAE).
    2. Your LOA was sent to the instructors, but you have not spoken with them about using the Alternative Testing Room or they have not completed the Alternative Testing Form: To remedy this, speak with your instructor to determine if using the testing room is appropriate for the course. If so, instructors must complete the Alternative Testing Form before you can complete test requests. Once the testing form is complete and submitted by your instructor, you should be able to see the course listed and can submit an exam request. If you are having difficulties, please contact disability@bw.edu.
    3. You are within the 5-business day window: All tests must be scheduled 5-business days in advance . If you're within the 5-business day window, the system will not allow you to schedule your test. For last minute test requests, please email alternativetesting@bw.edu with the following details: Your name, the course number, the instructor, the date of the exam, and start time of the exam. We will determine if a proctor is available at that time but cannot guarantee last minute test requests.

If you still cannot schedule your test after trying the above solutions, please visit the top floor of Ritter Library or email us at alternativetesting@bw.edu for more assistance.

  • When I go to schedule my exam, I do not see my course listed in the options.

There could be two reasons why you cannot see your course listed in AIM:

Once they complete the testing form is complete and submitted by your instructor. Once the testing form is complete and submitted by your instructor, you should be able to see the course listed and can submit an exam request. If you are having difficulties, please contact disability@bw.edu.

  • I scheduled my exam, but my extended time now overlaps with another class. What do I do?

You are required to take your exam during the same time as the rest of the class. The only exception to this rule is if the extended time overlaps with another class.

If your extended testing time will overlaps into another course's start time, you should schedule the exam earlier to avoid the conflict. Likewise, if your extended testing time overlaps into another course’s end time, you should schedule the exam later to avoid the conflict. If multiple classes conflict with your extended testing time, speak with your instructor about an appropriate time to complete the exam based on your schedule.

  • My class meets after the Alternative Testing Room hours of operation. What should I do?
