Reason Established: Professor Norman J. Wells, Ph. D. served as chemistry professor at B-W from 1992 until his death in 2006. The learning and growth of his students was his top priority. Reason Established: Judge Harvey Clyde Wilcox graduated from Baldwin-Wallace University in 1903 and received his Masters Degree in 1906 from the University. He served as a loyal member of the Board of Trustees for thirty-three years between 1924 and 1956. He was Judge of Probate Court in Lorain County for twenty-four years before retiring and was a sixty-year member of the First Methodist Church of Elyria. He died in 1971 at the age of ninety-nine. This fund serves as a memorial to his life of service.

Reason Established: For over 80 years, Fred and Marguerite Wilder have been part of the extended BW family. Following his enrollment at BW in the 1930's where he majored in science, Fred served as a Navy Seabee in WWII. He went on to receive a degree in forestry from the University of Michigan and later a master's in education from the University of Florida. A skilled woodworker, he built and operated two mobile home parks in Florida, passing away in 2012. Marguerite graduated from BW in 1935 with a degree in science and taught for several years. This scholarship honors their pursuit of science degrees while at BW and their longtime commitment to the BW community.

Reason Established: The driving force behind the establishment of this endowed scholarship is the desire of Kent and Shirley R. Kent is the retired owner of an architectural specialty products distributorship known as the W.W. Williams Co., Inc. in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Kent is a registered Professional Engineer (Ohio and Florida), having passed through the pre-engineering program at B-W. Shirley attended Brevard College and retired from SunTrust Banks with more than 38 years of service.

Reason Established: Wesley ’54 and Mary Anne ’55 graduated from Baldwin Wallace with degrees in Education. Mary Anne transferred to BW her junior year and shortly thereafter met her husband to be, Wesley, and together they celebrated more than 50 years of marriage. Wesley and Mary Anne enjoyed long and successful careers as teachers in local school districts. Later in Wesely’s career, he held leadership positions in education administration as a principal and worked at Cuyahoga Community College. Wesley and Mary Anne loved their world travel excursions and while they didn’t have children of their own, they cared about and nurtured their students as their own. Education was important to both Wesley’s and Mary Anne’s families and Mary Anne is still a firm believer of that today. She established The Wesley ’54 and Mary Anne Wittich ’55 to help students pursuing degrees in education so they, too, could enjoy wonderful careers serving others.

Ann, a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace, majored in Sociology with her favorite class being Cultural Minorities. She taught at the elementary level for almost 30 years, including 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation in Arizona. She also worked for the Florida Department of Public Welfare in Palatka, Florida during the time that the first Black social worker was hired in that area. This proved to be an eye-opening experience for her. Ann is establishing this scholarship on behalf of the Native American and Black American populations and to recognize the hardships and adversity they have faced.

Reason Established: Born in 1893, Viola Pearl, known as Betty, grew up in a time and place in which, as her father told her, "Decent women did not work outside the home." As a young woman, she refused to let his disapproval prevent her from attending Western Reserve Library School. In later years, when she was widowed during the height of the Great Depression, her education enabled her to obtain a job as a librarian and support her two teenage daughters. She also became Director of Volunteers at Lakewood Hospital and, later, a tour guide for Greyhound Bus Company. In the end, her father would surely have approved.

Her husband, Robert, earned his Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Wilkes College, a Master's degree in Music Education from Eastman School of Music, and began working on a Doctorate degree in Musical Arts. He retired as full professor of Music at Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY where he taught for more than 34 years. Robert helped grow and shape Monroe Community College's music program in its earliest years. This scholarship was established to provide encouragement for talented music majors with financial need.

Lois Zolliker was the first woman to reach the executive level in the auto industry. Her color sense was the equivalent of perfect pitch in music. Lois served Chrysler Corporation, American Motors, and later became an independent color and fabric consultant. Lois and Margaret's parents were also graduates of Baldwin Wallace.
